Curatorial description:
Sophie Thun mainly employs analogue photography techniques. She is interested in the process of picture-taking as well as working in the darkroom. The photogram here depicts her hand holding the negative during the exposure. The work was created in Riga, where Thun encountered the archive of the Latvian photographer Zenta Dzividzinska (1944–2011). It addresses the theme of the working conditions and position of generation after generation of women artists in the hierarchical world of art.
