In his artistic practice, Jakub Woynarowski draws on themes from the borderline of visual theory and practice. In 2014, he co-created the Polish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. He is a devotee of all kinds of conspiracy theories, from which he smuggles selected threads into his work.
Woynarowski’s work “De Nive Sexangula” shows a six-pointed star with a crystal-like structure inscribed in it. On its left side there is a shape similar to a spiral arc. Here the artist seems to combine extremely different narratives. The elements allude to Walter Gropius’s concept of “crystallization,” Johannes Itten’s lost work “The Fire Tower”, and the now-classic work of land art “Spiral Jetty” by Robert Smithson. In metaphorical terms, Woynarowski’s work can be viewed as a visual attempt to capture the dialectical nature of art and the interpenetration of surprising connections, histories, and creative approaches.
